Why does Delaware State Parks/DNREC keep trying to develop our parks with restaurants and now upscale cabins?
Our parks do not need to be turned into Airbnbs; there are plenty available close by in Lewes and Rehoboth. I organized a summer camp for our youth group this past summer that utilized the primitive youth camp site they plan to develop. The camp had 50-plus youth; we’ve had similar camps many times in the past. It’s a perfect spot with the right mix of shade, open field for games and proximity to Herring Point beach.
This is a highly utilized area by many youth groups year-round. I’ve sent an email to my state representative, Ronald Gray, opposing this project. I hope we get plenty of other people pushing back against this as well. Delaware State Parks leadership has their priorities all wrong. They should be protecting our crown jewels, not looking to increase revenue streams with rentals!
