August 13, 2023

The Delaware Symphony Orchestra announced the search for its next music director, marking a new chapter in the organization's history.

The comprehensive search process, spanning two years, begins with the call for initial applications, which will be accepted for submission through Friday, Sept. 29. Detailed information about the position has been posted on the DSO website, and advertised in national and international industry outlets.

Frank Clowes, Delaware Symphony Association president, said, "The Delaware Symphony Orchestra is stepping forward into a new era as we begin this search, and engaging closely with our talented musicians and supportive community is pivotal. I am eager to witness the creative direction the DSO will take under this fresh leadership. It's an exciting time, and we are all looking forward to the transformative journey ahead."

A 13-member search committee composed of DSO musicians, members of the Delaware Symphony Association board of directors, and community leaders, has been appointed to review all candidates over the coming months. Finalists will be announced in spring 2024 and will appear with the orchestra during the 2024-25 season, with the appointment of a music director anticipated in summer 2025.

"The search for a new artistic leader is a crucial stage in the growth of any orchestra, including the DSO," said J.C. Barker, CEO. "This is an exciting and busy time for our organization, and we are eagerly looking forward to the process. We are confident in our community's support as we progress with this important work."
