DelDOT marks completion of patriotic bridge mural near Dover AFB

November 14, 2023

The Delaware Department of Transportation recently announced the completion of the patriotic mural that was painted on the SRA Elizabeth Loncki Bridge over Route 1 near the entrance to Dover Air Force Base.

The painting of the mural began the first week of October and was performed by Wilmington resident Christian Kanienberg of Wish Unlimited LLC. He was contracted by Allied Painting Inc. and is the primary contractor painting bridges along the Route 1 corridor.

“This mural is the department’s way of showing our appreciation to our service members past and present, and honoring the life of Elizabeth Loncki, for whom the bridge was dedicated in 2018,” said DelDOT Secretary Nicole Majeski. “On behalf of the department, we thank all who served and wish all a happy Veterans Day.”

Loncki, a senior airman in the U.S. Air Force, died Jan. 7, 2007, at age 23 after her explosive ordnance disposal team was targeted by a car bomber near Baghdad, Iraq. She was a New Castle native, attended St. Peter the Apostle grade school and graduated from Padua Academy in Wilmington in 2001.
