DelDOT’s Name That Plow contest open to elementary schools

Winter’s official arrival is now just a few weeks away and the Delaware Department of Transportation is launching its second annual Name That Plow contest for elementary school students across the state.

Last winter’s winners were from Newark Charter School in New Castle County, Lake Forest North Elementary School in Kent County and Shields Elementary School (now Lewes Elementary School) in Sussex County.

“Our inaugural Name That Plow contest last year was a success with more than 100 entries received. We had a great time visiting the three schools to allow students to get up close with the plow and learn about the hard work by our snow plow operators and technicians tasked with keeping our roads clear during winter storm events,” said Secretary of Transportation Nicole Majeski. “We look forward to doing it again this year and asking students to remind their family and friends to give our plows plenty of room to work this winter.”

One winner from each county will be selected and will have a snow plow visit their school.

Entries will be accepted via email until 11:59 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 13, at dotpublic@delaware.gov. Entries are limited to 15 letters and must include the student’s, teacher’s and school’s name.

DelDOT has more than 300 pieces of snow removal equipment statewide and is responsible for treating and plowing almost 14,000 lane miles of roadway. For more information about DelDOT’s winter storm operations, go to deldot.gov on the snow FAQ webpage.
