Delmar was one of the stops for the Delmarva Express

Pennsylvania Railroad invested heavily in passenger service during the first half of the 20th century and built elaborate stations including dozens in towns up and down the Delmarva Peninsula, such as this one in Delmar, in the southwestern corner of Sussex County. This postcard dates back to about 1906.
Delmar was one of the stops for the Delmarva Express, a daily Pennsylvania Railroad passenger train that made its way down the peninsula from New York City to Cape Charles, Virginia. From there, cars were loaded onto a barge and taken across the mouth of Chesapeake Bay to Norfolk, Virginia.
The Delmarva Express operated up until 1957.
