Siblings Dan and Lacey Danilovitz win titles
July 1, 2022

Siblings won the Dewey Beach Patrol 5K June 26, as 200 runners raised $2,000 for the DBP team that will travel to California later this summer to compete in the USLA Lifeguard Nationals.

Daniel Danilovitz, 15, of Moosic, Pa., was the overall winner in 16:40. Lacey Danilovitz, 16, won the women’s title in 18:08. Jeff Danilovitz, 47, ran 21:19, while Kris Danilovitz, 49, ran 21:47.

The family of four ran under the banner Any Way You Run It, but the bigger question is, “Where is Moosic, Pa.?”

Moosic is a borough in Lackawanna County between Scranton and Wilkes-Barre. The Riverside School District is the prevailing public school system serving the region.

The Dewey Beach Patrol had 18 rookies run the race, with the top times turned in by Hunter Jones in 19:46, Declan Morrisey in 20:50 and Josh Turek in 22:55. Ella Ruppert and Ella Rishko were the top DBP women in 23:27.

Mike Sewell, 53, was male masters champion in 19:14, with Allison Sauntry, 41, winning the female masters race in 20:34.

There were 11 states represented in the field of 200 runners.

The next Races2Run event is the July 4 Dewey Beach Liquors 5K at Northbeach at 7:30 a.m.

Notables: There were six under-9 girls who ran the 5K, led by Taylor Bretz of Mechanicsburg, Pa., in 28:03. Dylan McClure, 9, of Lewes won the U9 male age group in 25:43. Mike Smith, 63, sportswriter for the Coastal Point, won the 60-64 age group in 23:46, pushed to the finish line by John Dowling of Ocean View in 24:26. Mardiny Ung, 55, won the 55-59 female age group in 23:36, but lost a $100 bet in the race by losing to two of her Connecticut relatives visiting for the week. Michele Karsnitz, 37, of Milton, running under the banner She Runs This Town, won the 35-39 female age group in 21:13. The Dewey Beach Patrol had nine finishers in the 14-18 male age group, including 2022 state wrestling champions John Antonio (152), Nick Hall (170), and Lucas Ruppert (285). Mikey Frederick (145), another wrestling state champion, wore a vest and rode in a Jeep.
