Dickens Parlour Theatre to screen ‘Wild Ponies of Chincoteague’ April 27
Dickens Parlour Theatre will begin its Inside Stories series at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 27, with a screening of Kurt Kolaja’s award-winning documentary film, “The Wild Ponies of Chincoteague.”
Many people are familiar with the annual Chincoteague pony swim and auction, and generations know the “Misty of Chincoteague” story. Marguerite Henry’s 1947 novel and the 1961 movie were based on the Beebe family’s efforts to raise a foal born on the island.
“The Wild Ponies of Chincoteague” follows a young teenager with depression who is given the chance to chase her own dream of owning a horse. “Stories like these cannot be told unless the people involved welcome a stranger,” said Kolaja, “They did that for me.”
Kolaja will be onstage to share his inside story, take questions from the audience and preview his next project, “Scrapple Road.”
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online at dickensparlourtheatre.com. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Light fare and beverages are available for purchase in the parlour. Dickens Parlour Theatre is at 31810 Good Earth Lane,
Ocean View, phone 302-829-1071.
