Dogfish releases two summer brews

June 15, 2023

Just in time for summer sipping, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery will launch two new beers for distribution exclusively in the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions: Bo-de-Gose, a limited-edition fruited Gose brewed in collaboration with Talea Beer Co., and Hazy Squall, a continually hopped hazy IPA.

Both Bo-de-Gose and Hazy Squall will hit shelves in early July, in 4pk/16oz and 6pk/12oz cans, respectively.

Created in collaboration with Talea Beer Co., Bo-de-Gose (5.0% ABV) is a fruited Gose brewed with ripe cherries, exotic guava and pink peppercorns. To craft this limited-edition ale, brewers from Dogfish Head and Talea foraged Brooklyn’s many bodegas to find the perfect bounties upon which they built the Bo-de-Gose recipe. The beer was first released in 2022 at Dogfish Head’s coastal Delaware locations and Talea’s New York City storefronts, but after many satisfied drinkers, this dynamic brewing duo decided to re-launch Bo-de-Gose on a larger scale.

“Even after 27 years, every Dogfish Head beer launch still gets me excited,” said Sam Calagione, Dogfish Head founder and brewer. “Of our beer launches, our off-centered collaborations, like Bo-de-Gose, hold a special place in my heart. It was so awesome reconnecting with our pals at Talea to re-brew Bo-de-Gose and bring it to drinkers beyond our taproom walls.”

Hazy pink with bright-white foam, Bo-de-Gose is bursting with the smell and taste of tart cherries and tropical guava accented by an earthy, peppery spiciness. Light and refreshing, it boasts a crisp, dry finish, similar to a dry white wine. To complement the beer’s bright, fruity character, Bo-de-Gose’s label artwork contains vibrant colors and a map illustrating the streets through which Dogfish Head and Talea’s brewers searched for the beer’s featured ingredients.

For a different tropical twist, Talea will launch its own iteration of Bo-de-Gose later this summer, brewed with tart cherries, rich mango and pink peppercorns.

“We believe sours are a great gateway to craft beer, bridging the gap between cocktails and wine and IPAs,” said LeAnn Darland, who co-founded Talea with Tara Hankinson. “Bo-de-Gose is that perfect balance of tart, fruity and salty. We loved tracing Sam’s NYC roots on our bodega inspiration.”

Dogfish Head is also adding a brand-new beer to its lineup of regional offerings. Joining Dogfish Head’s iconic series of continually hopped beers, Hazy Squall is a Hazy IPA brewed from a blend of pilsner malt and malted wheat. After being continuously hopped with Cascade hops throughout the boil, it is judiciously dry hopped late in fermentation with a blend of Citra, Azacca, Mosaic and Galaxy hops. The result is a 6.5% ABV, bright-gold beer with delicious aromas of orange, grapefruit, mango and lime, and juicy notes of tropical fruit, orange creamsicle and pineapple.
