Donald James Cahill, proud veteran
Donald James Cahill, 92, of Lewes, formerly of New Jersey, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at Bayhealth Medical Center, Milford. He was born Nov. 16, 1929, in Philadelphia, Pa., son of the late Connor and Helen (Brett) Cahill.
Mr. Cahill was a proud veteran, having honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following his service to the country, he built a lifelong career as a contract specialist, spending time at the Frankford Arsenal, a U.S. Army ammunition plant near Philadelphia; at a U.S. military processing station in Fort Dix, N.J.; and in New Jersey at Naval Air Engineering Station Lakehurst. He took early retirement to care for his parents in their later years.
A devout Catholic, Mr. Cahill was a faithful member of St. Jude the Apostle Church in Lewes. He was fiercely proud of his Irish heritage, was a member of the Notre Dame Club, and lived and breathed all things pertaining to Emerald Isle.
Above all, Mr. Cahill cherished time spent with those he held most dear. He was a loving and devoted brother, cousin, and friend. Loved by many, he will be deeply missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.
Mr. Cahill is survived by his dear sister, Sr. Helen M. Cahill R.S.M., of Lewes; his many cousins; and his dear friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 21, at St. Jude the Apostle Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes. Burial with military honors will take place following the mass at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
