Donald L. Webb, firefighter, state retiree

Donald L. Webb, 79, of Milton passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family Monday, Sept. 19, 2022. He is survived by his wife of eight years, Christine Thompson Webb; daughters, Sheila (Wayne) Donovan and Crystal (Steve) Johnson; stepchildren, Eric (Kariane) McGinnis and Rebecca (Ron) Eisenacher, eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren: sister, Phyllis Donovan; sister-in-law, Nancy Webb; many special nieces and nephews; and his recliner and food buddy, Chloe. He was preceded in death by his father James Webb; mother Beatrice Marker Webb; sister E. Mae Adams; brother Gerald Webb; first wife Gloria Abbott Webb; and great-grandson Ayden Eisenacher.

He worked at Cordrey Ford as a mechanic for 20 years. He retired as a heavy equipment operator after 25 years for the State of Delaware. He played in various bands over a 30-year period and still enjoyed playing guitar with family and friends. One of the highlights of his life was playing at Grand Ole Opry in 1983. He was a life member of Ellendale Volunteer Fire Company, where he served the community for 63 years. He also served as Ellendale police commissioner and on Ellendale Town Council.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 2, at the Ellendale Fire Hall, 302 Main St., Ellendale.  A time of visitation for family and friends will begin at 11 a.m.  Interment with fireman’s honors will immediately follow at Ellendale Cemetery.

Flowers are accepted, or a donation in memory of Donald can be sent to Ellendale Volunteer Fire Company, 302 Main St., Ellendale, DE 19941.
