Dorothy J. Quillen, 87, of Rehoboth Beach passed away Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019, at her residence. She was born April 19, 1932, in Georgetown, daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Long) Joseph.
Mrs.Quillen worked as a clerk for Fox's 5 & 10 in Lewes before switching her focus to enjoying her time as a homemaker. She was a woman of strong faith and touched many while teaching Sunday school for 37 years at the First Baptist Church in Lewes. Her other duties and passion for the church consisted of church secretary, Awana leader, and a member of the choir. Mrs. Quillen was also known for her red velvet cake with Crisco icing, and chicken and dumplings. Above all, she was a dedicated and loving wife to her beloved husband of 63 years, Ernest.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Quillen was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest K. Quillen of Rehoboth Beach. She is survived by her daughters: LuAnn Emery (Alan) of Greenville, S.C., and Cindy Dukes (Hal) of Dewey Beach; her brother, Ronnie Joseph (Linda) of Georgetown; her sisters: Noreen Jager of Rehoboth Beach and Eleanor Glenn (William) of Seaford; her grandchildren: Nathan Emery (Jessica) of Greenville and Brian Emery (Heather) of Greenville; and her granddog Shofer.
The family of Mrs. Quillen would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers: Michelle Wilson, Patricia Edwards and Delaware Hospice for their kind and compassionate care during her last few months.
Interment will be held Friday, Dec. 20, at 10 a.m., at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro. A Memorial Service will follow interment at 11:30 a.m., at the First Baptist Church of Lewes, 1001 Kings Highway.
A viewing will be held the day prior Thursday, Dec. 19, from 4 to 6 p.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes.
