Dr. Joanne Damminger appointed assistant VP for student affairs at Del Tech

Dr. Joanne Damminger has been appointed to the position of assistant vice president for student affairs at Delaware Technical Community College. In this role she will provide collegewide vision and leadership for the student services division.

She will also work with the deans of student services to provide oversight for academic advisement, career services, veteran programs, services for students with disabilities, student clubs and organizations, campus activities, athletics, new student orientation, commencement, registration and international education programs. Her appointment was effective March 4.

Dr. Orlando J. George Jr., president of Delaware Tech, said, “Student success is the highest priority at Delaware Tech. We are very fortunate to have Joanne’s extensive knowledge of community college advisement and student affairs. Her 22 years of experience in all aspects of student affairs and higher education will be a valuable asset to the college.”

Damminger joins Delaware Tech from Salem Community College where she most recently served as chief student affairs officer. In this role she provided administrative leadership for student affairs, advisement, athletics, enrollment and transition services, career services, disability services, financial aid and student activities. She previously served as assistant dean of student affairs and director of the Center for Student Success and Educational Opportunity Fund Services.

Prior to her career at Salem Community College, Damminger served as director of Student Transition and Leadership Programs and executive assistant to the vice president for student affairs at Rowan University. She provided oversight for new and transfer student orientations, learning communities and the sophomore-year experience program.

In addition, Damminger serves as an adjunct faculty member at Rowan University in the educational leadership doctoral program. She also taught developmental reading at Gloucester County College.

Damminger has a master's degree in student personnel services and a doctoral degree in educational leadership from Rowan University.

Damminger currently serves as vice president of the National Academic Advising Association. She is a published author and nationally recognized presenter on academic advising and career counseling.
