Edgar C. Bennett, real estate developer
Edgar C. Bennett, 84, of Bethany Beach passed away surrounded by his loving family Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md.
Edgar was born in Roxana Feb. 13, 1935, son of the late Edgar B. Bennett and the late Georgia (Watson) Bennett. He was a Selbyville High School graduate and attended the University of Delaware. Edgar proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and then also in the Merchant Marine.
Mr. Bennett had a successful 50-year career as a real estate developer and broker operating Bennett Realty in Bethany Beach. He was a member of Mariner’s Bethel United Methodist Church in Ocean View before transferring his membership to Salem United Methodist Church in Selbyville, and he was also a member of the Selbyville Lions.
Edgar enjoyed taking yearly vacations to Puerto Rico, and reading biographies and history books. He enjoyed the simple things in life such as dining out, having a good milkshake, and eating fried chicken and coconut cake.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Georgana Mariner. Edgar is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Judy (Willey) Bennett; two sons, Durwood Bennett and his wife Lori of Ocean View, and Myles Bennett and his wife Melanie of Middletown; four grandchildren, Trent, Katherine, Sarah and Matthew Bennett; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held at 4 p.m., Saturday, July 13, at Mariner’s Bethel United Methodist Church, 81 Central Ave., Ocean View. Interment will be held privately at Millville Cemetery.
