Elaine C. Lynn, devout Christian

March 22, 2023

Elaine C. Lynn, 74, of Millsboro, formerly of Patterson, N.Y., went home to be with Lord Monday, March 20, 2023.

Elaine was born in Yonkers, N.Y., Oct. 20, 1948, daughter of the late John and Claire Hickey. She was a stay-at-home mom until her early 40s when she went to college at Dutchess Community College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. to obtain her RN.

Elaine loved helping people and worked primarily as a nurse at a drug and rehabilitation center. Her last place of employment was Turning Point in Beacon, N.Y. She became a born-again Christian in the early ‘80s and became heavily involved in the churches of her community. She was a member of the Brewster Baptist Church in Brewster, N.Y., Faith Assembly in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and after moving to Delaware, Midway Assembly of God Church in Lewes. Elaine was a devout Christian. She volunteered with Compassion International and faithfully donated to the organization, as well as World Vision and Samaritan’s Purse.

Elaine was the glue that held her family together and will be remembered as the best wife, mom and grandmother that anyone could ask for. She loved to paint, go to the beach, and was a voracious reader of her Bible.  She and her beloved husband, Richard, also loved animals, especially their beagles.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Douglas Hickey. Elaine is survived by her husband of 54 years, Richard J. Lynn; four children, Laura Slocum (Phillip) of Millsboro, Bonnie Seligson (David) of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., John Lynn (Allison) of Wilmington, and Mary Ayson (Art) of Virginia Beach, Va.; a brother, Dennis Hickey of Florida; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held at noon, Thursday, March 23, at Midway Assembly of God Church in Lewes. Interment will be held privately at Delaware Veterans Cemetery in Millsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Elaine’s name to World Vision, worldvision.org.
