Eleanor King Johnson, put God and family first
Eleanor King Johnson, 84, of Georgetown, went home to be with our Lord Monday, Nov. 10, 2014, surrounded by her family at her home.
Eleanor graduated from Georgetown High School in 1947 and began what would be a 63-year working career. She worked for American Oil Company, various accounting and administrative roles with the Marvel family and most recently retiring from Donovan's Salvage at the age of 80.
She was a longtime member of Wesley United Methodist Church and Georgetown Community Bible Church. What Eleanor valued most was God and family. They were always her first priority, from honoring her mother and father to when she had a family of her own. A gentle, kind and loving soul, Eleanor loved to give of herself. Her calm influence gave her a quiet strength. You couldn't ask for a more loyal friend. A glimpse into Eleanor's spirit can be seen in her response when asked about the largest change she's seen in the world. She responded, "The way that families aren't families anymore, and the way people disrespect each other." Her greatest advice was, "Love the Lord and live by His Word. Everything is His, so be a child of God and you will have everything." We believe that God has already smiled and said "well done" of Eleanor's life.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Estella (Hurley) King; her loving husband of 47 years, Alfred "Buddy" Johnson; as well as her brother, Nelson King; and sister, Norma Dunkelberger. She is survived by daughters, Linda Purnell (Charles, truly more a beloved son rather than son-in-law) of Georgetown; and daughter, Pam Johnson of Harrisburg, Pa.; sister, Doris Passwaters of Georgetown; granddaughters, Candace (Chris) Morgan, Amy (Shawn) Purnell, Adele (Dom) Hatton and Jessica (Kevin) Purnell; great-grandchildren, Shahon DeShields, Nyla Hatton, Nic Hatton, Aaron Morgan and Jae Ana Purnell. Eleanor's many nieces and nephews include, Charles (Shirley) Passwaters, Dennis Passwaters, George "Beetle" (Debbie) Passwaters, Donald (Bev) Passwaters, Cherie Passwaters, Norma "Sissy" (Danny) Keene, Kathy (Mark) Prentice, Robert "Bobby" (Dawn) Passwaters, April "Bunny" Stanley Heck-Woodard, Joanne Stanley Jefferson, William Johnson, Jr., Judy Johnson and Paul (Debbie) Dunkelberger, Jr.
Funeral Services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 15, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call after noon. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Georgetown.
