Elizabeth Perkins-Mullen, had many talents
Elizabeth Perkins-Mullen, better known as ‘Cookie,” daughter of James and Isabelle Perkins, was born Tuesday, July 18, 1950, in Nassawadox, Va. She departed this life Thursday, Dec. 24, 2020, at the age of 70, while resting at home in Georgetown.
Elizabeth attended New Allen Memorial A.M.E. Church in Franktown, Va. Her parents relocated to Rehoboth Beach.
Elizabeth received her education at Rehoboth Elementary and Middle Schools and also attended William C. Jason Comprehensive High School in Georgetown. After she completed school, she worked in the home health profession.
Cookie was blessed with a son, James Perkins, also known as “Poonie,” while she was employed at Doxsee Clam House in Lewes. Her son departed this life at the age of 9 as a result of an automobile accident. After her son passed away, Elizabeth moved to Millsboro with her sister, Lizzie Mae, better known as “Babe.” She worked at Cargill Paramount Poultry Processing Plant in Harbeson for a short period of time. From there she worked at Vlasic Food for 15 years, and was known as one of the top packers. When she was given a quota, she would go above and beyond, bringing home many bonuses. She enjoyed packing spears.
Elizabeth met her best friend and soulmate, Leroy Mullen Jr., better known as “Lee Lee,” in 1982. After getting to know each other and enjoying each other’s company, Lee Lee decided to ask for her hand in marriage in 1985. After a two-year engagement, Lee Lee and Elizabeth married April 18, 1987.
Elizabeth was loving, quiet, sweet, intelligent, educated and straightforward. She loved cooking, baking and traveling with her husband. She also spent many days crocheting blankets, outfits for dolls, afghans, scarfs, hats and mittens for everyone, while watching cartoons. She enjoyed going out to dinner with her husband, family and friends. She gave her life to God in the early ‘90s, at St. John 2nd Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. C. N. Sample Sr. She joined the senior choir and women’s ministry. Some of her favorite songs were: “One Day, I’m Going Where Jesus Is” and “Brand New Life.” She especially liked “There Are So Many Wonderful Things About Jesus,” which was sung by her mother-in-law.
At an early age, Elizabeth was diagnosed with diabetes, but she never let her illness get in the way of worshipping her God. During her final moments, she held her husband’s hand and called on the name of Jesus.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, James and Isabelle Badger-Perkins; brother, Cecil Wise; sisters, Gladys Mae Wise, Lizzie Mae Perkins and Ethal Mae Wise; and her beloved son, James Perkins.
Cookie leaves to cherish her memory, her loving teddy bear of 38 years, Leroy Mullen Jr. of Georgetown; sister, Rose Perkins of Georgetown; two sisters-in-law, Judy Batson (Anthony) of Seaford and Jennie Mumford of Laurel; two brothers-in-law, William Mullen (Sarah) of Georgetown and Leon Mullen (Alice) of Millsboro; three godsons, Howard Savage, Vincent Satchell and Brandon Satchell; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends, including her loving physician, Dr. Beshaka N.
