Elks Lodge 2540 hosts district Hoop Shoot

Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540 hosted the district competition of the Elks National Hoop Shoot Contest Feb. 5 at the Sussex Family YMCA in Rehoboth Beach.
The winner of the 8-9-year-old girls’ competition was Kate Bradshaw, who made 13 of 25 shots. In second place was Raelynn Irelan with 12 baskets. The 10-11 girls’ winner was Lily Kirby, with five successful shots. Athena Fleming-Lloyd took second with four buckets. The 12-13 girls’ winner was Mia Scott, who made 19 of 25 shots. Second place went to Ellie Wells with 15 baskets.
The 8-9 boys’ winner was Tanner Jones, who sank 17 of 25. Second place went to Kymar Duffy with 15 of 25 shots made. The 10-11 boys’ winner was Karver Henson, who made 18 of 25. Second place went to Marcus Blake Jr. with 17 buckets. The 12-13 boys’ winner was Benjamin Hill, with 21 successful hoops, while Chance McGee garnered second with 17 of 25.
The winners will move on to participate in the state-level competition in Oxon Hill, Md., which comprises Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia.
