Emory R. West Jr., DelDOT retiree

Emory R. West Jr., 69, of Milton, passed away peacefully at home Friday, March 3, 2023. Emory was born Oct. 24, 1953, in Milford, to his parents Emory R. Sr. and Charlotte (Walls) West.

A lifelong Miltonian, Emory retired from working as a machinist and welder for Delaware Department of Transportation to spend more time fishing and enjoying life. Following in his father’s footsteps, he was a longtime member and past master of Endeavor Lodge 17, where he also served as a senior deacon. He served multiple terms on Milton Town Council and helped organize the Milton Concerts in the Park series. He was a member of Lewes Moose Lodge 646, Franklin Lodge 12, Tall Cedars 49, Little Lincoln Stock Car Club and Milford Go-Kart Club. Stock car racing has always been a big part of his life, and he built and drove many cars over the years. 

Emory was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his daughter, Karen West; his two brothers, Jack West (Alisa) and Arlo West; sister, Penny West; a granddaughter, Amala West; nephews, Jed, Zac and Sam West; and many other family and friends. 

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, March 10, with Masonic Service at 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 11. Both services will be at Short Funeral Services chapel, 416 Federal St., Milton.
