Sussex County's 4,500 spaces for recreational vehicles in 17 recreational vehicle parks, resorts, and campgrounds could be set to grow.
Masseys Landing Park Inc. is seeking approval of Sussex County Planning and Zoning Commission and Sussex County Council for 332 new sites.
Lawrence Lank, Sussex County Planning and Zoning Office director, said Delaware Department of Transportation last week issued entrance permits for Masseys Landing Park Inc.
“They issued one for the north side and one for the south side of Long Neck Road,” Lank said in a May 20 interview.
He said DelDOT also filed a letter of no objection to the proposed RV park.
A planning and zoning public hearing on the project is scheduled for 6 p.m., Thursday, May 23, in council chambers in Georgetown.
The hearing will focus on Masseys Landing Park’s request for a zone change for 51 acres adjacent to Long Neck Road near the state’s public boat ramp. The company is seeking a change from general residential to AR-1, agricultural-residential, and a conditional-use permit. RV parks are not permitted under the existing general-residential zoning.
The proposed campground at the end of Long Neck Road would contain 322 RV sites and 10 tent camping sites. Planned amenities include a swimming pool, pavilions, general store and welcome center; dog park, cafe and snack bar, bath houses, nature center, 4,000-square-foot and 5,000-square-foot lodges, fishing and crabbing piers, golf cart rental center, DART bus stop and a rental center for kayaks, canoes and other nonmotorized watercraft.
County council, which makes the final decision, will hold a hearing at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 18.
