Environmental law expert to speak April 22
The Sussex County League of Women Voters will present a talk on “Delaware's Environment: The Good, the Bad and the Scary" at its League, Libations and Learning social gathering set for 5:30 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 22, at Iron Hill Brewery, 19815 Coastal Highway, Rehoboth Beach.
Environmental attorney Mary Stewart Douglas will be the guest speaker. "The good is our Sussex air quality (hedged by near-roadway pollution), recent legislation, and our new Sussex County Council raising hope for better land use,” said Douglas. “The bad is our water quality. And the scary is climate change and the federal government.”
Now retired, Douglas worked as an attorney in the EPA's Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance, in the National Association of Clean Air Administrators and in private practice. She now volunteers with the Advocacy Corps of the League of Women Voters of Delaware, serving as chair of the natural resources portfolio.
Drinks and dinner with separate checks will precede the 45-minute presentation. Although the event is open to all, seating is limited and preregistration is required. For more information and to register, go to sussexlwv.org.
