Eva Parker, devoted to family

July 20, 2022

Eva “Jean” Parker, 88, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 17, 2022.

Jean was born Aug. 2, 1933, in Wilmington, to the late Frank and Cathryn (Bowden) Hastings. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three brothers, three sisters, and a grandson, Jesse Wade Eskridge.

She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Georgetown, and United Methodist Women.

Jean spent the majority of her life raising children. In addition to helping tend to children in her own family, she was an in-home daycare provider for 36 years. “Mom-mom Jean” was known for watching game shows and the Orioles, having cookie time in the afternoon, using cool pops to heal any hurt and for playing a mean game of Yahtzee! She also loved to read, paint ceramics, do puzzles and word searches, attend stock car races, and watch NASCAR. The most important thing to Jean was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and loved any excuse or holiday to have a family gathering. She also enjoyed supporting and watching her grandchildren in their activities and sports.

She is survived by her husband of 73 years, R. Alfred Parker; children, April Eskridge (Jesse), David Parker (Lana), Laura Parker and Chris Parker (Lisa); grandchildren, Chad Eskridge, Julie Powers (Skip), Jason Eskridge (Arlene), Brian Parker (Casey), Aimee Parker Mumford (Walt), John Stevenson (Christine), Amber Stevenson, Justin Stevenson (Jen), Jennie Goins and Jackson Parker (Bethany); 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

A funeral service will be held at noon, Monday, July 25, at Short Funeral Services chapel, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call after 10 a.m.  Interment will follow at St. John’s United Methodist Cemetery.
