Film society to present Met Opera Live in HD broadcast Feb. 21
The Rehoboth Beach Film Society will present encore screenings at 1 and 6 p.m., Monday, Feb. 21, of the Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD broadcast of Terence Blanchard’s “Fire Shut Up in My Bones.” Screenings are held at the Cinema Art Theater and will be shown as recorded presentations after being filmed live.
Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts Grammy Award-winning jazz musician and composer Terence Blanchard’s adaptation of Charles M. Blow’s moving memoir, which had its 2019 world premiere at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. Featuring a libretto by filmmaker Kasi Lemmons, the opera tells a poignant, profound story about a young man’s journey to overcome a life of trauma and hardship. James Robinson and Camille A. Brown, two of the creators of the Met’s sensational recent production of “Porgy and Bess,” co-direct this new staging. Brown, also the production’s choreographer, becomes the first Black director to create a main stage Met production. Baritone Will Liverman, one of opera’s most exciting young artists, stars as Charles, alongside sopranos Angel Blue as Destiny/Loneliness/Greta and Latonia Moore as Billie.
In addition to the opera performance, the Live in HD series features Met opera stars conducting live interviews with cast and/or production crew members while showing behind-the-scenes workings. “Fire Shut Up in My Bones” addresses adult themes and contains some adult language.
Admission for The Met: Live in HD broadcasts is $25 for adults; $22 for RBFS members, Met members, and seniors 65+; $15 for students with ID and children 12 and under. Customers are encouraged to purchase admission online. If seats are available, tickets can be purchased at the theater 30 minutes before the screening.
