The Perdue Farms plant in Milford celebrated its annual employee volunteer day in conjunction with the Food Bank of Delaware by donating 400,000 pounds of frozen chicken, of which 40,000 pounds was received Sept. 25, and a check for $25,000.

The event, held at the Food Bank of Delaware’s new location in Milford, is a blessing to the one in eight families suffering from food insecurity.

“September is a month dedicated to raising awareness, inspiring action and making a lasting difference for the millions of Americans facing food insecurity,” said Cathy Kanefsky, president and CEO of the Food Bank of Delaware. “Here at the Food Bank, we are reminded of the urgency of our mission every single day. No child, no senior, no family should be going hungry.”

Edgardo Torres, operations manager at the Milford Perdue Farms, said, “At Perdue Farms, we believe that nobody should ever have to worry about where their next meal is coming from. Millions of families across the country and here in Delaware still face that reality every single day. For us, giving back is more than just an initiative or something that we do because we must, it is a core part of who we are. We have proudly donated nearly 100 million pounds of proteins to regional food banks.”
