Mike Lucey said Forgotten Mile Ale House has taken longer than anticipated, but, he continued, “we’re taking our time to make sure it’s done right.”
The head-to-toe remodel of the former Captain’s Table has now been completed and the ale house opens to the public Friday, Oct. 23.
Brothers Mike and Steve Lucey, owners of Ulysses Gastropub in Wilmington and Six Paupers in Hockessin, are the owners of the new restaurant, 20859 Coastal Highway.
Mike said Forgotten Mile will be a mix of the gastropub and bistro food offered at the two sister restaurants in northern Delaware. The food will be upscale bar and comfort food, he said.
Mike said Forgotten Mile will offer 14 beers on tap and plenty of bottles of craft beer.
During a brief tour of the restaurant while it was still under construction, Mike said the the interior layout of the 5,500-square-foot building remained much the same as it was during its Captain's Table days, but everything was stripped down to the studs and replaced, and the old drop-ceiling was removed.
Mike said the old wood paneling from the Captain’s Table was refurbished and used on the bar.
The most notable difference are the two garage door-sized windows installed in the building’s south wall. This, said Mike, will let in more natural light.
Mike said he expects customers from the Wilmington area to eat at the restaurant when they visit the Cape Region, but it's the local population that will be the business’ bread and butter.
“That’s the way it was for the Captain’s Table,” he said.
