Former Rehoboth Art League president Jeffrey Seemans signs Doors of Fame
The Rehoboth Art League marked its 75th anniversary with its time-honored tradition of the signing of the Doors of Fame. Former Rehoboth Art League Board President Jeffrey Seemans was asked to sign the doors because of his enduring service to the art organization.
“I was truly honored to be asked to sign and have my service recognized in this very significant way,” Seemans said. “I am humbled to sign these iconic doors laden with such a rich 75-year history and to be included with such distinguished company. Anyone who gets the opportunity to become president of this historic arts institution is given a privilege that comes with responsibility.”
Other signers have included famed Lewes artist Jack Lewis, Gov. Jack Markell and his wife Carla, and former Gov. Pierre du Pont IV.
Seemans served as Rehoboth Art League president from 1997 to 2001 and became known as the "garden president" because of his efforts to restore the Rehoboth Art League’s historic grounds. Seemans, a registered landscape architect, presided over the restoration of the Homestead Garden and Derrickson Memorial Garden, personally designing a gazebo for the Homestead Garden. He is married to Pamella Bounds-Seemans, known as the "wild woman of art" and a Rehoboth Art League member-artist since 1973.
“Jeff was a perfect choice to sign the door of fame to mark the 75th anniversary of the Rehoboth Art League and the 40th anniversary of the outdoor show,” said Rehoboth Art League Executive Director Sheila Bravo. “He made the art league as beautiful on the outside as the art is on the inside.”
Seemans signed the door surrounded by family, friends, artists, and past and present Rehoboth Art League board presidents Marcia DeWitt and Diana Beebe. Next to his signature, he painted an image of the gazebo he designed for the historic Homestead Garden.
The doors of fame, restored gardens and more than 100 select artists’ work can be seen at the Rehoboth Art League Outdoor Show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 17, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 18. The event is rain or shine and admission is $5 for adults, and free for children ages 12 and younger. The Rehoboth Art League is at 12 Dodds Lane in Henlopen Acres, Rehoboth Beach.
