Frances V. Showell, born in Devon, Pa.
Frances Victoria Showell, 102, daughter of the late Louis and Adelaide Thornton, was born April 15, 1913, in Devon, Pa. She departed her life Thursday, Sept. 17, 2015, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, surrounded by her family.
She was educated in the public schools of Media, Pa. She was a member of Union Wesley United Methodist Church in Clarksville.
She resided in Bayard for 69 years, after which she moved with her daughter in Milton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Showell; one daughter, Harriet “Jane” Manuel; and two grandsons, Norman R. Manuel Sr. and Tracy Manuel; and one great-grandson, Forrest Manuel Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted daughter, Doris Sturgis of Milton; one son, Wayne (Nora) Williams of Philadelphia, Pa.; four grandsons, Anthony Manuel of Frankford, Robert Manuel and Dwight (Margaret) Manuel, both of Selbyville, and Forrest (Selena) Manuel Sr. of Suffolk, Va.; four granddaughters, Sherry (James) Gibbs of Dagsboro, Monica Manuel and Melissa Manuel, both of Frankford, and Angie Williams of Philadelphia; one sister, Louise (General Julius) Becton of Fort Belvoir, Va.; 16 great-grandchildren; and a host of great-great- and great-great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A funeral service and celebration of her life will be held at 12 p.m., Friday, Sept. 25, at Union Wesley United Methodist Church in Clarksville, where there will be a viewing from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
