Francis William Carr, retired pressman

Francis William Carr, 70, of Millsboro, formerly of Philadelphia, Pa., passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at Beebe Medical Center In Lewes.

Frank was born in Philadelphia, Nov. 30, 1942, son of the late Francis E. and Catherine R. (Gillen) Carr. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Frank worked with over 30 years of service as a pressman for the Philadelphia Bulletin then the Philadelphia Inquirer before his disability. Frank enjoyed golf, bowling and playing cards especially pinochle and Texas hold ‘em.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 31 years, Mary Ellen Carr Dec. 20, 2012. Frank will leave to cherish his memory four children, John McConnell, Mary Ellen Brogan, Donna Sheehan and William Sheehan; two sisters, Trudi Schaeffer and Kathleen McIntyre; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Millsboro. Interment will be held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Frank’s name to the American Cancer Society Sussex County Unit, PO Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21805.
