Gallagher a smash hit at Baycenter event
Trash-talking, food-smashing comedian Gallagher brought his wacky brand of humor to the Baycenter in Dewey Beach April 9 and helped raise thousands of dollars for Jefferson School and WBOC's Bless Our Children fund.
A sell-out crowd filled the Baycenter for the event. Those in the first 20 or so rows protected themselves from the show's grand, hammer-thumping finale with large trash bags.
By the end of the show, that plastic was well splattered with bits of watermelon, chocolate sauce, rice crispies, canned corn, creamed corn, mashed pumpkin, red fruit syrup and other colorful food stuff.
The show started off civilly and orderly enough with Gallagher rolling through a topical monologue. He brought parents of Jefferson School children into the act and slowly but surely began to assemble, at the front of the stage, a variety of food concoctions that eventually, powered by whacks from his famous hammer, went blasting into the messy but smiling and laughing crowd.
The Gallagher show is part of an annual comedy tradition sponsored as fundraisers by Jefferson School. Past performers have included Weird Al Yancovic and Joan Rivers.
