Garden center group to travel to NYC's High Line Gardens Sept. 21
East Coast Garden Center owner Valery Cordrey plans to escort a group to New York City to see the incredible High Line Saturday, Sept. 21.
"The High Line is a park built on the former elevated New York Central Railroad tracks. The park is above the streets on Manhattan's west side,” says Cordrey, “and incorporates beautiful, native plants and trees that provide interest year round.” The plantings were designed by renowned landscape designer Piet Oudolf. "I think the park is a fantastic idea," says Cordrey.
The park contains a water feature, viewing platforms, a sun deck, and gathering areas used for performances, art exhibitions and educational programs.
"The northern end of the park ends at Chelsea Market. Chelsea Market is an interesting enclosed food court and shopping mall where one can find a delicious lunch and gifts. Because Chelsea Market offers a large variety of eateries, finding a great lunch is no problem," says Cordrey. She also notes that clothing line samples were on sale at deep discounts at some of the stores in the market when she last visited.
The trip will leave East Coast Garden Center, 30366 Cordrey Road, Millsboro, at 7 a.m. and Lowe's at Five Points, Lewes at 7:15 and will stop for passengers in Dover. Cost is $79 per person. The group will leave NYC at 3 p.m. For information and reservations, call 302-945-5853.
