The Ronald McDonald House of Delaware 5K held Sept. 18 at Irish Eyes in Lewes welcomed 146 finishers and a following crowd of walkers.
The weather was low humidity and sunny with a race-time temperature of 74 degrees.
Steve Koch, 60, of Shillington, Pa., hometown of late author John Updike, went Rabbit Run on the field to win in 19:40 after busting a 6:12 opening mile.
Dave Wolbert, 62, of Flint, Mich., was second overall and first masters in 21:36. Wolbert warmed up by doing pushups at the starting line. “I’m more of a bodybuilder than a runner,” Wolbert said.
Matt Brooks (21:57), Duane Christy (23:03) and Hunter Williamson (24:26) completed the top 5 leaderboard.
Joanne Senft, 51, broke the banner for the first time in an open race and was the first female in 24:59.
She was followed by Mia Thompson in 26:30, Paige West in 26:40, Holly West in 27:18 and Maya Yngve in 28:00.
Tonia Light, 46, of Laurel won the female masters in 28:27.
The next local Races2Run events are the Dave’s Dewey Dash 5K Saturday, Oct. 2, and the Dewey Goes Pink 5K Saturday, Oct. 9.
