Girl Scouts to honor Fay Jacobs Sept. 26
Girl Scouts prepares girls for a lifetime of leadership, unleashing the G.I.R.L., go-getter, innovator, risk-taker, leader, in every girl. Each year, Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay selects a local G.I.R.L. who is a role model for all girls as the Woman of Distinction.
This year, GSCB will honor Fay Jacobs, award-winning author and humorist, at the 2018 Sussex County Woman of Distinction Luncheon Wednesday, Sept. 26, at The Clubhouse at Baywood.
Over her 35-year career in journalism, public relations and theater, Jacobs embarked on a journey that has highlighted her creative strengths and abilities. Her time as a journalist provided her the opportunity to write for The Washington Post, Baltimore Sun, Delaware Today, Delaware Beach Life and more. Her LGBT journalism credits include The Advocate, Curve Magazine and Letters from CAMP Rehoboth.
Jacobs has written books that highlight her comedic personality, providing relatable stories for her readers and expressing her love for Rehoboth Beach. Jacobs' first book, "As I Lay Frying: A Rehoboth Beach Memoir," was the introduction to her series of comedic memoirs.
Her second book, "Fried & True," won the 2008 National Federation of Press Women Book of the Year award for humor.
"For Frying Out Loud," her third book, won national awards including a GCLS Goldie and an IPPY Independent Book award.
Jacobs' fourth book is "Time Fries: Aging Gracelessly in Rehoboth Beach." In addition to her remarkable writing career, she has taught memoir and comedy writing, and judged for the Lambda Literary Awards.
Through Girl Scouting, girls learn to face challenges head-on, embrace failure as a learning opportunity, create lasting relationships, and find dynamic solutions to social issues, all while building the skills and courage they need to take the lead every day and empower themselves for life.
