The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control announced June 1 the Gordons Pond parking area, pavilion, beach area and surf-fishing vehicle crossing at the southern end of Cape Henlopen State Park will be closed Wednesday, June 2, and Friday, June 4, for a security event. The press release announcing the closure said there will also be intermittent periods Wednesday, Thursday and Friday when the southernmost portion of the Gordons Pond trail within the park will be closed.
DNREC did not give any details on what the security event is. However, the park’s parking lot is around the corner from President Joe Biden’s summer home. Biden has not visited the North Shores home since being sworn into office.
Michael Globetti, DNREC spokesperson, said the news release contains all the information that’s available at this time.
