Greek mythology study engages Mariner eighth-graders
Students in Laura Hazzard’s eighth-grade Sussex Consortium class at Mariner Middle School recently spent time studying Greek mythology.
Together they read the book “Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief,” which all the students absolutely loved. They were very engaged and always excited to open the book.
Throughout the unit, students learned about Greek gods, demigods and various mythological creatures.
For the final project, each student was tasked with creating their own demigod. They utilized their new knowledge of Greek mythology to develop their character’s traits and qualities, and then used their art skills to draw their creations.
“It was so much fun seeing them get so excited to learn and discover the world of Greek mythology,” said Hazzard. “They really got into the characters and were able to use their imaginations so perfectly to create their own representations of demigods!”
