A Greenwood man faces drug charges after police say he led them on a chase Nov. 5 near Lincoln.

Members of the Kent County Governor’s Task Force were on patrol about 7 p.m. on Calhoun Road near Rust Road when they saw a silver Dodge Durango on the side of the road with its hazard lights on.

When they stopped to check on the Durango, police said, the driver took off and threw drugs out of the SUV. Police said they found about 7.5 grams of crack cocaine, about 0.69 grams of heroin and drug paraphernalia.

The driver, Richard Boyd, 56, eventually stopped the SUV in the parking lot of Shawnee Country Store on Shawnee Road. Boyd was arrested without incident and taken to Troop 3, where he was charged with two counts possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance; possession of a controlled substance, tier 1; tampering with physical evidence; disregarding a police officer’s signal; and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $20,500 secured bond.
