Gregory Van Redington, beach aficionado
Gregory Van Redington, 53, of Ocean View passed away at his home Friday, May 3, 2019. He was born Feb. 28, 1966, in Ankara, Turkey, son of Charles F. Redington II and Muriel (Silver) Redington of Rehoboth Beach.
In addition to his parents, Gregory is survived by his son, Joshua Allen Redington of Red Lion, Pa.; his fiancée Michele Lee of Ocean View and her daughter, Tiffany Slavin of Millsboro; two brothers: Charles F. Redington III of Baltimore, Md., and Mark Redington of Redwood City, Calif.; one sister, Rebecca Markovich of Odenton, Md.; as well as two grandchildren.
Gregory, having a love for music, studied classical piano as a youth, and enjoyed playing the piano/keyboards as an adult. He was an avid aficionado of the simplicity, beauty, and wonder of the beach. It was at the ocean that he found his solitude and peace when life's difficulties arose; it was at the ocean where he found his joy.
His innate, wry, almost obtuse outlook at the cultural and behavioral dissonances that exist in our life was a frequent amusement to those in his presence. His proclivity to take interest in both cultural and historical phenomena led him to a deep love for England, where he eventually took a second citizenship as a Briton.
Gregory marched to the beat of his own drum; he was known for his quick wit and infectious sense of humor, as well as benevolence and willingness to help those in need. Oftentimes, he would call his parents to see what favors they needed.
During his marriage to Denise, Gregory fathered a beautiful son, Joshua Allen Redington, now 25, who continues to carry his Dad's torch of wonder and goodness - his bright smile radiating the very same astute senses of observation and humor as his father who loved him so dearly and continues to do so.
Yet as all would know, words fall painfully short in conveying what he brought to this world. And again, words fall short in conveying the terrible void left by his passing.
At the end of the day, when all is said and done, Mr. Gregory Redington was what all men desire to become in this lifetime: A good man.
