I am writing in support of Jane Gruenebaum for Sussex County Council District 3.
Jane has a demonstrated track record of working toward thoughtful growth in Sussex County across party lines. She was one of the founders and the first president of Sussex Preservation Coalition, a nonprofit, nonpartisan citizen group that acts as a positive voice for sustainable development in the county (do not confuse it with the developer-backed PAC Preserve Sussex). Starting with a small group of volunteers, Jane built a coalition of 30 organizations and 4,000-plus supporters to demand change.
County council makes the rules that govern development in Sussex County. It's the planning & zoning commission, appointed by county council, that uses those rules to empower the overdevelopment of Eastern Sussex.
Currently, we see council doing nothing to control development and passing no ordinances that would bring common-sense growth to the area. Jane will work to change codes to protect our environment, say no to rampant overdevelopment, and say yes to maintaining the crucial balance between development and quality of life.
Jane is not against growth. She says, “The built environment can live in harmony with the natural environment.” As she works to bring about that harmony between sustainable growth and livable neighborhoods, she will use her well-honed coalition-building skills to reach out not only to her colleagues on council, but also to state legislators, community leaders and Sussex County citizens as well.
I hope many others will join me in voting for Jane to be a voice on county council for rational development and enduring quality of life for the citizens of Sussex County.
