Harvey G West Jr., veteran, fireman

Harvey G West Jr., 71, of Georgetown, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2025, at Delaware Bay Nursing Home, surrounded by his loving family.  

Harvey was the son of the late Harvey Sr. and Mary (Middleton) West.

Harvey proudly served his country honorably and faithfully in the U.S. Army for 14 years during the Vietnam War, flying 32 missions. After coming home, he enlisted in the Delaware National Guard, serving as a recruiter. He was a member of Virgil Wilson VFW Post 4961.

In addition, Harvey answered the call of duty in his community with Georgetown Fire Company, serving as assistant chief and vice president, and holding several offices. He also served with Georgetown Ambulance Station 93.

Harvey is survived by his daughter, Christina West; sister, Bonnie Adams (Martin), brothers, Ronald West Sr. (Deborah), Edward West and Stevie West. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Jacob, Adriana, and DJ; three nephews; a niece; and his best friend, Ricky Hudson.

Along with his parents, Harvey was preceded in death by his sister, Lisa West.

Services for Harvey with full fireman’s honors will be held at noon, Monday, Feb. 24, at Short Funeral Services Inc., 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, with a viewing from 10 a.m. to noon. Burial with military honors will take place at Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Millsboro.
