Rehoboth Beach novelist Ethan Joella spoke to a rapt audience of more than 40 attendees at the Hawthorne community’s Sept. 26 author talk event.
After discussing his writing journey, Joella read a passage from his third novel, “The Same Bright Stars,” then answered questions and signed attendees’ books.
“The Same Bright Stars” follows Jack Schmidt as he begins to question his life choices after working many years at the helm of the Rehoboth Beach restaurant he inherited from his family. Now he must decide whether to sell the business for a very lucrative sum and pursue other opportunities or keep the family heritage alive while maintaining his close relationships with the employees who have become his work family.
Joella teaches English and psychology at the University of Delaware, and specializes in community writing workshops. His previous novels are “A Little Hope” and “A Quiet Life.”
The Hawthorne community, located on Route 9 east of Georgetown, has four book clubs whose leaders, Susan Cahill, Linda Musumeci, Marcia Case and Gale Deitch, work together to sponsor quarterly author talks for their members.
