Over 125 animal advocates came together and enjoyed the inaugural Heels & Hooch Gala benefiting the animals of Grass Roots Rescue March 23 at the CHEER Community Center in Georgetown.
Over $11,500 was raised for Grass Roots and will be used to pay for medical care, which includes very expensive heartworm treatment, spay/neuters, and other medical procedures that Grass Roots doesn’t shy away from bringing into its care. The funds will also be used for emergency medical needs throughout the community.
Avatar Instruments, 1-800-GOT-JUNK, GFP Cement Contractor, Rehoboth Beach Hampton Inn, V Spa and Richard Bryan of Delaware Coastal Realty were just a few of the sponsors that donated for the first event.
Saturday, April 13, GRR will hold an adoption event at Iron Hill Brewery in Rehoboth. This is an opportunity to visit with many animals up for adoption as well as have a wonderful meal where 20 percent of all food sales (when one mentions Grass Roots) will be donated to the rescue.
The rescue will also be hosting a cornhole and beer pong tournament Saturday, May 18, at the Georgetown Fire Hall from 4 to 9 p.m.
This will be a 21 and over event, so schedule the baby sitters now. GRR’s 3rd Annual 4 Paws Got Your 6 benefit will be Saturday, Sept. 7, at American Legion Post 28 on Route 24, Oak Orchard. The event raises funds for not only the rescue but to assist in funding for a service dog for a veteran.
