Helen Ethel Chenoweth, retired educator

Helen Ethel Chenoweth, 75, daughter of the late Dorothy Maddox and Floyd Chenoweth, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019, at her home, from complications of Alzheimer's Disease. 

Helen was born Friday, April 12, 1944, and raised in Chase, Md., where she attended Kenwood High School in Essex, Md.  She attended Frostburg State College (University) in Frostburg, Md., and Towson State College (University) in Towson and Indiana University. Helen earned her master's degree in health and physical education, and taught in Baltimore County for 30 years. She retired and relocated to Georgetown. 

She lived her life as an educator and enjoyed volunteering.  Helen had the privilege of attending the Olympic Games when they were held in Mexico City, Mexico, in 1968.  As an athlete, she medaled in the Maryland and Delaware Senior Olympics. 

Helen was committed to an active, healthy lifestyle - a quest she wished for everyone. Helen was a natural athlete. After retirement, an avid cyclist, she then completed the Sea Gull Century, a 100-mile bike ride, beginning and ending at Salisbury University. She was inducted into the Kenwood Hall of Fame in 2008. Helen was very creative, loved playing and staying active. She also loved animals, the outdoors, woodworking and music, having seen more live music performances than most. 

Helen will be sorely missed by those who survive her, wife Robyn Kirby; one sister, Joan Chenoweth; sister-in-law, Sherry Colville; and fur babies Zoey and Lacey.

Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 274 N. Rehoboth Blvd., Milford, from 2 to 4 p.m., Friday, Oct 11. Family and friends may visit at that time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Helen's name to the Alzheimer's Association, 240 North James St., Suite 100A, Newport, DE 19804, and the Delaware Senior Olympics, 1121 Forrest Ave., Dover, DE 19904.
