Henlopen Acres’ 2024 municipal election is set to take place from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Aug. 31, at town hall, 104 Tidewaters.

There are four candidates vying for two commissioner seats – Ann Cameron, incumbent Tiffany Derrickson, Alex Jacobs and incumbent Beatrix “Paddy” Richards.

Cameron is a multi-generational property owner and resident, and seeking office for the first time.

Derrickson grew up in and is a resident of Henlopen Acres. She was first elected to the commission in 2021.

Richards has served as a nonresident commissioner since she was first appointed in 2007.

Jacobs is seeking his first term in office and would be a nonresident commissioner. He did not provide a headshot.

The town charter calls for a minimum of four resident commissioners, which means at least one resident commissioner will be elected based on the current composition of the board. This will be the third election since 2021, after not having one in the decade prior.

It is too late to register to vote in this year’s election – the deadline was Aug. 1. Absentee ballots are available now from the town clerk. The deadline for requesting an absentee ballot to be sent by mail is 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug 27. The deadline to request an absentee ballot in person is noon, Friday, Aug. 30. Absentee ballots must be received at town hall no later than noon, Saturday, Aug. 31. Anyone interested in obtaining an absentee ballot packet should contact town hall at 302-227-6411.

The winners of the election will be sworn in during the town's organizational meeting at 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 13, in town hall.
