History and antiquarian book sale set at library Sept. 20-21
The Friends of the Lewes Public Library will hold a history, rare and collectible book sale from 3 to 5 p.m., Friday, Sept. 20, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 21, at the library, 111 Adams Ave., Lewes.
More than 2,000 books on history and politics, as well as a wide selection of old, unusual, or rare books - some dating back to the mid-1800s - will be available. Prices start at $3, with proceeds benefitting the library.
History books in the sale will feature American history (including the Civil War, World War I, World War II and the Vietnam War), Russian history (including the Soviet military), Chinese history, and biographies of important figures in U.S. and international history including presidents and military figures.
Through generous donations, the library has also accumulated hundreds of antiquarian books, including local interest, biography and history. These items will be sorted by category and protected in acid-fee, clear bags. Pricing for antiquarian books is set at 30 to 65% below online reseller prices.
Candace Vessella, Friends of the Lewes Public Library board president, notes that as community members downsize or as books get left to estates, people often approach the library to make book donations.
“These donations really do make a difference,” said Vessella. “A book that is no longer wanted can help raise money to support library services, and we’re delighted to pass these wonderful books on to people who will appreciate them. Collectors will find some real treasures.”
Admission to the sale is free, and all are welcome. Credit cards will be accepted for purchases of $10 or more. Proceeds will be used for library book and media purchases, library programming and special projects and other library needs.
The Friends of the Lewes Public Library is a 501c3 organization dedicated to supporting the Lewes Public Library, its services, and programs through various activities, including fundraising events, volunteer support, programming support and book sales.
