Indoor gun range Best Shot set to open soon
After months of construction, Best Shot, a new indoor gun range, pro shop and training facility, outside Lewes will be open soon.
Best Shot’s pro shop and two ranges are going through a members-only soft opening, which will allow for the kinks to be worked out, said owner Ron Hagan, during an interview Dec. 19. The plan is to open to the general public the week after Christmas or right after the New Year, he said.
The new 10,000-square-foot building is located on the northbound side of Route 1, just north of the Nassau Bridge, and shares an entrance with Light House of Lewes.
There are two multi-bayed ranges – one 15 yards long; the other 25 – and two locked doors to the pro shop. The door entering the ranges won’t open while the one coming from the shop is open, said Hagan.
Both ranges feature a touch-screen computer system that track shots during a person’s session, said Hagan.
In addition to a pro shop and the ranges, there’s a large training room, a VIP lounge and a conference room. Training courses are going to include everything from basic handgun and rifle safety to specialized classes on tactical training, said Hagan.
The ranges and pro shop may be up and running, but they are still waiting for a Federal Firearms License. The license inspection is happening before Christmas and the expectation is the agent will approve the license, which is expected to become effective immediately, he said.
Once the federal license is approved, Hagan said the guns from the store in West Rehoboth will be moved to the new store and the original location will close.
The business’ exterior sign had not yet been installed, but there is a decorative not-so-thin blue line wrapping around the building – Hagan is a retired state trooper and co-owner Hank Rickards is a Marine veteran.
Jenn Hagan, Ron’s wife and co-owner, gave a big thumbs up about the blue line.
“You’d never guess how hard it was to find that color blue,” she said.
For now, the hours of operation for Best Shot, 16797 Coastal Highway, are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week. Hagan said they will be closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, and more hours will be added after the first of the year.
