Institute of Museum and Library Services worth protecting
I love my library. I am writing to emphasize the urgent need to protect and sustain the Institute of Museum and Library Services, a vital source of support for our libraries and museums across Delmarva. IMLS is the only federal agency that provides direct funding to libraries, making it essential to their survival. As a passionate advocate for libraries, I’ve seen firsthand the immense impact that IMLS has on these institutions, and by extension, on the communities they serve.
Delmarva libraries are the heart of many communities, providing not only access to information but also fostering literacy, learning and innovation. For many people, libraries are a lifeline to educational resources, technology and professional development opportunities – services that are critical in bridging the gap for underserved populations. The grants and programs administered by IMLS enable our libraries to continue evolving with the needs of their patrons.
Federal dollars are crucial for libraries, especially in areas with tight local budgets. IMLS funding is essential for libraries, particularly in rural and underserved communities. It helps libraries upgrade technology, create children's literacy programs and strengthen community partnerships – initiatives that change lives.
As we face uncertain economic times, it’s more important than ever to safeguard institutions that provide access to knowledge and opportunity for all. IMLS is crucial to keeping our libraries and museums vibrant, innovative and accessible. I urge our legislators to prioritize the reauthorization and continued funding of this vital agency.
