Jack Clemons to present 'Catching Apollo' July 19 at Cordrey Center

July 3, 2012

The Cordrey Center in Millsboro will feature local author and genuine rocket scientist Jack Clemons at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, July 19, presenting "Catching Apollo," a behind-the-scenes look at NASA's Apollo Moon Landing Program.

Clemons will include film clips, vintage photographs and anecdotes drawn from his time as a lead engineer supporting the Apollo astronauts during their return through Earth's atmosphere to a safe ocean landing. He'll also share some little-known stories about the people and teamwork that saved both the Apollo 12 and Apollo 13 missions from near disaster.

Clemons was formerly an executive with Lockheed Martin, but his early career was spent in Houston, Texas, where he worked on both the Apollo and space shuttle programs. He was also featured in Science Channel's six-part documentary series "Moon Machines," which covered various aspects of the Apollo program from space suits to the command and lunar module spacecraft.

Admission is $7.50. Refreshments, including wine, will be served. Register to ensure space is available by calling 302-945-3489. The Cordrey Center is at East Coast Garden Center, just off  Route 24 at 30366 Cordrey Road, Millsboro.
