James Owen Smith, worked in construction

James Owen Smith (Jimmy), 81, of Georgetown, passed away Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, in his home.

He was born to parents James Jesse Smith and Emma Elizabeth Roberts in Baltimore, Md., Feb. 21, 1935. He had six siblings, Bob, Doodle, Margie, Janet, Chuck and Mike.

Jimmy served four years in the U.S. Navy. He worked in the construction field his entire life doing everything from building boats to building houses.

He was married to Edith Jane Baskette in his early years and they had four children together, daughter Vickie Lynn, twins Kimberly Carol and Donna Lee, and son James Morgan. He later re-married his current wife, Delores Ann Bensinger, and they had one daughter together, Valerie LaVerne. Delores also brought to the family her three children, George, Ron and Patty.

He left behind 23 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, sister Janet, son Ron and grandson Justin.

Jimmy was a loved husband, father and friend, as well as a mentor to many.

He is being cremated and his family is honoring his request of having no services or viewing.

The many family and friends of Jimmy are thankful for the condolences.
