Jan Leslie Motz, brilliant businesswoman
Jan Leslie Motz, 68, passed away peacefully at home Thursday, May 7, 2015, after a long illness.
Jan, a resident of both Vienna, Va. and Rehoboth Beach, was born Sept. 1, 1946, in Hagerstown, Md., to Mary and the late Maurice Messersmith. A graduate of North Hagerstown High School and Hagerstown Business College, Jan married the love of her life, John (Jack) Robert Motz Jr., June 4, 1966. She was a devoted family member and made every event, whether simple or a milestone, special and memorable.
Jan was a brilliant businesswoman and served as vice president and CFO for her family business, Commercial Condominium Management Company in Tysons Corner, Va. She loved spending time with her family at the beach and was an avid skier, tennis and volleyball player. She had a passion for hard work and always carved extra time out for her grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Every day was a better day when Jan was a part of it.
She is survived by Jack and their children, John Robert Motz III and Kristian Clark Motz, both of Vienna, John's wife Anne; and four grandchildren, Tristan, Noah, Chase and Riley; her mother Mary; sister Bettina Messersmith; brother Maurice (Skip) Messersmith and his wife Bonnie Wilkens; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her son Christopher; father Maurice; sister George St. Michael; sister Kim Coker; and grandsons Carter and Jonah Motz.
A memorial service will be held Friday, May 15, from 3 to 6 p.m., at Westwood Country Club, 800 Maple Ave E, Vienna.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions be sent to the Wounded Warriors Project.
