Jean Carson, retired supervisor
Jean Carson, 90, passed peacefully at her home Saturday, June 20, 2020.
Jean was born in Nanticoke, Pa., Aug. 27, 1929, daughter of Harry and Sarah Jane Higgins, who immigrated from Yorkshire, England, to work in the coal mines. After high school, Jean studied nursing in Bethlehem, Pa.
She met Harlow Carson at the Jersey shore and they married Jan. 19, 1952. They honeymooned in New York City where they heard Perry Como. They lived at 6333 North Broad St. in Philadelphia, where their son Steven was born Oct. 20, 1952.
In 1959, they moved to Waterford, N.Y., where their son David was born Feb. 10, 1960. Jean worked as a unit supervisor of the Medical Oncology Department of the Leonard Hospital in Troy, N.Y.
For 26 years, Jean and Harlow spent their winters in Myrtle Beach, S.C., accompanied by their friends from Upstate New York, Rose and Fred Schuttenhelm.
After retiring, Jean and Harlow moved to Lewes in 1987. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, a member of the Lewes Senior Center, and a board member and secretary of the Sweet Briar Homeowners Association. In her retirement, she enjoyed gardening, and playing Bingo and cards with her circle of friends. She loved to travel and visit with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Harlow; her son Steven who lives in Philadelphia, Pa.; her son David who lives in St. Louis, Mo., with his wife Chona, near their two children Justin and Alyssa.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, June 29, at 2 p.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call beginning at 1 p.m. Entombment will follow at the Bethel Methodist Mausoleum, Lewes. Social distancing protocol will be observed and masks are mandatory for all attending services.
