Jean E. Bishop, pickle plant retiree

Jean E. Bishop departed this life at home Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018, surrounded by her loving daughters. She was born April 3, 1931, in Millsboro to the late Carrie Burton and Olin Andrews.

Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband George W. Bishop; and her brother Edward Washington (Peanut).

Jean was educated in the Millsboro school system. At the completion of her education she met George, the love her life. They were married for 67 amazing years.

Jean worked for Millsboro Poultry and Townsend Poultry before spending 20-plus years at Vlasic Foods (The Pickle Plant), retiring in 1992. She loved her job and the friendships she developed with her co-workers. In her free time she loved to complete her word-find puzzles and spend time with her family.

She and George became members of St. John’s 2nd Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Clarence C. Sample Sr.

Jean leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Bonnie Hatton of Millsboro and Jo Ann Smith, also of Millsboro; four grandchildren, LySandra (Van) Baynard of Millsboro, Arnold Hatton Jr. of Hyattsville, Md., Ebony Smith-Alexander of Bear and Jermaine Hatton of Townsend; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-granddaughter.

The family would like to thank Barbara Scott, Mable Conway (Baby Sis) and the host of friends and family who spent time with Jean in her final days on Earth.

Services will be Saturday, Dec. 29, at St. John Second Baptist in Millsboro with a viewing starting at 10 a.m. and a service at noon. Burial will be 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 31, at Delaware Veterans Cemetery in Millsboro. Services by McPherson Funeral Services, Camden.
