Jerry M. Lykins, I.B.E.W. Local retiree

Jerry M. Lykins, 78, of Millsboro, formerly of Saint Georges, went home to be with the Lord Friday, Feb. 26, 2016.

Jerry was born in Dille, W.Va., Feb. 27, 1937, son of the late Noble Radford and Vada (Facemire) Lykins. He graduated from Widen High School in Widen, W.Va., class of 1955, and graduated from Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, Ill. in 1956. Jerry also proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Lykins worked for the I.B.E.W. Local 596 in Clarksburg, W.Va., and eventually retired from I.B.E.W. Local 313 in Wilmington in 2000, with over 60 years of service in both unions. Jerry was a former member of Newark Baptist Church and an active member of East Gate Presbyterian Church in Millsboro. He was also a member of American Legion Post 25 in Middletown.

Jerry loved to fly airplanes and was also involved with ham radios. He was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening. Jerry enjoyed staying active, and at the age of 60 he began taking martial arts lessons.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda N. (Truex) Lykins; two daughters, Deanna Swearer and her husband Rich of Ocean View, and Cheryl Fuhrman of Millsboro; four grandchildren, Chris “C.J.” Foster, Kelsy Swearer, Shania Fuhrman and Abby Swearer; and a brother, Stephen Lykins of Charleston, W.Vs.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, March 7, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where friends and family may call after noon. Interment will follow at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Jerry’s name to East Gate Presbyterian Church, 34806 Church Lane, Millsboro, DE 19966.
